Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. “
“‘Not called!’ did you say? ‘Not heard the call,’ I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father’s house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. And then look Christ in the face, whose mercy you have professed to obey, and tell Him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish his mercy to the world.”—William Booth
Some reasons why the commission of Christ is great:
1. Great in its Mandate “…said unto them go…”
The fact that God has given this commission makes it great. We have a great God that has a great plan, and it is an absolute honour and privilege to be a part of it. We have a great commissioner that gives a great commission.
Psalm 145:3 “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.”
Psalm 135:5 “For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.”
2. Great in its Mission “…go ye into all the world...”
It is an overwhelming mission when you think about it. The church has the responsibility to reach out to its own community as well as around the world. However, we are not alone, the great God promises to be with us and give us the power to be able to fulfill His mission.
Matthew 28:20 “…and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
3. Great in its Message “…and preach the gospel.”
a. The Gospel is good news (Forgiveness, restoration, and reconciliation)
b. The Gospel is powerful (Deliverance, new creature, changes lives)
Psalm 86:13 “For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”
4. Great in its Mercy“…to every creature. “
God’s great grace and mercy is not limited. It is available to all who would believe.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
