2 Corinthians 9:15 “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”
Paul thanks God for His gift that is “unspeakable”. In other words a gift that is indescribable. God’s greatest gift truly leaves a person speechless.
Why is the gift of God so amazing, indescribable, and unspeakable to those that have received it by faith?
A. It is a gift of God
1. Jesus the Saviour for our sin
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
JESUS = The Lord Saves (JESUS SAVES)
Sin brings forth death, and it is only through the name of Jesus a person is able to be saved from sin.
Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
It is absolutely astonishing to ponder the fact that God is willing to forgive all the evil we have thought, said and done.
Psalm 32:1 “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
God said to Jeremiah “…for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”Jeremiah 31:34
Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
2. Eternal life
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
There are some things in this life that we are fascinated with, but can you image the things which we cannot see? Eternity, what would it be like?
When God created us, He created us an eternal being. We are more than a body. We have a soul, and when our body dies our soul will live on; we either will have eternal life or eternal death. Heaven or Hell.
Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
a. Prepared place in Heaven with the Lord – John 14:1-3
b. We are Royalty – The Children of God – 1 John 3:1
B. It is a gift of God’s Grace
Matthew 1:21 “…for he shall save his people from their sins.”
1. God Paid the price in full
The thought of God becoming a baby (Man-child) has shocked the world. John 1:1, 14 – 1 Tim 3:16
God a King, was made a Servant. He was not born in a palace, but was born in an animal house. He is the Creator of the world, and yet the world had no room for Him. God being rich was made poor, and had nowhere to lay His head. 2 Corinthians 8:9
Mathew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Even other religions cannot believe this. Why would God become a man?
2. God is Love
Philippians 2:7-8 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. vs 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Not only His birth would be amazing, but also His death. God being in the flesh, suffered and died for sinners.
1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”
What makes this amazing grace and leaves a person speechless is that we all didn’t deserve it, and God didn’t have to do it. Romans 5:8
Isaiah 50:6 “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.”
John 10:15 “… I lay down my life for the sheep.”
What is the unspeakable and indescribable gift? God's amazing Love
Psalm 127:1 “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
God’s Word refers to various kinds of buildings or houses that He desires to help us build.
· The Building of my life · The Building of my family · The Building of my church
In each of these areas we must allow the Lord Jesus Christ to be the Master Builder or else all we do will be in vain. We must acknowledge that it is the Lord that initiated these buildings; without the Creator we would not be here today and would have nothing. Without the Lord, we would not have a family and would not have a church; we would not have our very lives.
Hebrews 3:4 “For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.”
Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”
A. Building of my Life
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee…” Psalm 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works...”
B. Building of my Family
Genesis 2:18 “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” verse 22 & 24
C. Building of my Church
Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
It is absolutely essential to allow the One that gave us life to rule our lives. Every area of our lives is safer left in the hands of the Creator.
Here are a few principles that will help you “let God build.”
1. Have a Good Framework
Ephesians 2:19-21 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God vs 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; vs 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:”
The greatest need for all people is to receive Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour from sin, and to be part of the family of God. This will be a good start in allowing God to build your life.
2. Have a Godly Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:11 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Every building needs a good foundation to be able to withstand the storms of life, the pull of this world, and the temptations of Satan. This world system and the Devil – the god of this world, endeavor to destroy these two institutions that God set up, the Home and the Church. To have a firm foundation a person needs to live out the Words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 6:46-49
A good way to let God Build in your family is to live out your responsibilities in the home:
- Wives submit to your Husband – Colossians 3:18 - Husbands love your Wife – Colossians 3:19 - Children honour your Parents – Colossians 3:20
Homes have been destroyed and families broken because wives have not learned the art of submission, husbands failed to love their wives, and children have been left alone in their rebellion. Do not build your life in vain, but rather build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word! You cannot go wrong when you build on God’s Word!
