In Acts chapter four the religious rulers were grieved that the disciples taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. They took the disciples and commanded that they should not speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
We must understand that there will be people in this day who will try to stop your mouth or forbid you to share Christ with others. As the disciples were threatened to stop, you also may be challenged to stop sharing the good news.
However, our response to this command must be the same as the early Christians.
Acts 4:19-20 “But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
What will help Christians be bold, standing for Christ, and not being afraid nor ashamed?
The answer is:
1. A Unified Purpose
Acts 4:24 “And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord…”
It is imperative that the Church of God be united together for the Gospel’s sake. What a blessing it is for a Christian to stand unashamed for Christ in these last days; but a greater blessing is when the Church stands together in unity, with one accord, not allowing the enemy to dim the light.
2. Acknowledge God & His Power
Acts 4:24 “And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:”
When others cause you to fear, it is good to remember that we have a God that is almighty, and not one hair of our heads is able to fall to the ground unless He commands it. Remember GOD IS IN CONTROL!!!
3. Affirmative Prayer
Acts 4:29 “And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,”
It is easy to for a Christian to be fleshly and fall into pride. However, they prayed and requested from God to have His power to speak the Word.
4. Answered Prayer
Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
