John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The greatest love ever demonstrated was the Love of Jesus Christ. He lived to love others. He spent His life on earth helping those that needed help. He taught truth to them; He washed their feet; He invested His time and life in serving and caring for others. To top it off, He would give His life for those that envied Him and wanted Him dead. Then he shocked the world with his amazing statement when He hung on that rugged cross, “Father forgive them…” Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:7 “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.” It is a rare incident that one will give his life for a good and upright man; perhaps one would think twice about it. But what are the chances of a person giving his life for those that were ungodly, unthankful, disrespectful, lying, wicked, and sinful? I would say no chance. Not so with our God. His Love is beyond human comprehension, further from this world, His Love is Divine, and is demonstrated in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ! Romans 5:10 “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” The story is told of a woman who left her husband. The husband called the police and filed a “missing persons report.” A few weeks later the police found her a few counties over. They asked him if he wanted them to take him to her. By now the husband had realized how poorly he had treated his wife. He decided to write to his wife, and he kept writing for months. Finally, Christmas came, and he went to see her (she was in a run-down hotel). He asked her to come home and she did. On the way home he said, “I’ve written to you for months, why did you come home so easily now?” She replied, “Because those were just letters, this time you came in person.” Christ came in person to save us and demonstrate to us His love. He mentions that the motivation for all that he did in his ministry, his work, and his relationship with others was all for the Gospel’s sake. (We can say, “All for the glory of God”) 1 Corinthians 9:23 “And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.” Towards the end of chapter 9, he mentions that he must be disciplined to maintain this kind of living - living for the glory of God and the sake of the Gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” If a Christian cannot live their life to the glory of God then life is not worth living. In Chapter 10:1 Paul then say “Moreover, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;” To be ignorant is “not to know.” In other words, Paul needed Christians to know some things…he needed to make them aware of some important things. Many times when people do things that are wrong it may be that they aren’t aware that it is wrong. But when it is brought to light and a person receives some instruction, wisdom or understanding, they are then accountable to repent, to change, and to do. James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” As Paul shares a few imperative things (We will see in the next few weeks) with the Church of Corinth, he concludes with 1 Corinthians 10:31“...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” When you live your life to give God the Glory; · Your Decision-making changes - Your agenda changes - Your attitude changes - Your desires change - Your affection changes · Your Passions change - Your passion for the Church of God changes - Your commitment to the Lord changes - Your giving to the Lord changes - Your ministry toward the Lord changes · The Way you do things changes - The way you work changes - The way you study changes - The way you submit to your husband changes - The way you love your wife changes - The way you treat people changes · The Way you live changes - What you watch changes - What you listen to changes - What you speak about changes - What you wear changes - What you think about changes - Where you go changes In Christ Alone, C Haddad - Galatians 2:20 "...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31 W: www.gbbc.org.au I E: charlie@eternal.org.au I W: www.eternal.org.au M: Po Box 318 Kotara, NSW, 2289 I P: 0401 955 955 I P: (02) 4023 4889 Meeting: 207 Maryland Dr, Maryland I 10:30am & 5:30pm Sunday services What does it mean to dedicate your Child before the Lord? The word ‘dedicate’ means “to offer up, to give, and consecrate to.”
Hannah prayed and requested of the Lord to have a child, and with her request she promised to dedicate him before the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:11 “...wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life...” The Lord remembered Hannah’s plea and granted her a child, after which she did follow through and presented him before the Lord 1 Samuel 1:22 “But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.” 1 Samuel 2:21 “...And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.” How can a person follow through their promise of dedicating their child to the Lord? 1. Continue to pray for them Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Little children are safe in God’s hands if they die in early childhood. Jesus said “…for such is the kingdom of heaven.” However, we must pray that when they come to an age of understanding, they will trust the Lord as their own personal Saviour. 2. Teach them the Scriptures 2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” A child’s exposure to the Scriptures mustn’t be only on a Sunday from the Sunday school teacher. You must teach your children the Word of God also. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: vs 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.’” 3. Be a Godly Example When little children see your dedication and love for the Lord they will soon build up an appetite for Him also. Failure to live out what you teach them could be a hindrance in your child’s life. · Be faithful to God and put Him first · Attend church faithfully and love the brethren · Pray & read the Bible with your children · Be a responsible parent & do not neglect them · Admit your faults to your children · Love and forgive others at all times - Do not slander and gossip about others In Christ Alone, C Haddad - Galatians 2:20 W: www.gbbc.org.au I E: charlie@eternal.org.au I W: www.eternal.org.au M: Po Box 318 Kotara, NSW, 2289 I P: 0401 955 955 I P: (02) 4023 4889 Meeting: 135 Ambleside Cct, Lakelands I 10:30am & 5:30pm Sunday services |
