Have you ever stopped and wondered why the whole world is affected by sickness and disease? Have you ever thought about why we are all susceptible to such illnesses? Various outbreaks of pandemics such as Ebola, the Spanish flu, and even the Corona-virus covid-19 are the result of a greater disease, the disease the Bible calls SIN. Before any doctor can prescribe medicine or a cure, he first must give the patient the proper diagnosis.

1. SIN, THE WORLD’S GREATEST DISEASE

Here are some reasons why sin is a greater disease:

Firstly, the SYMPTOMS of SIN. Sin is not just a sign of sickness, but sin reveals a heart condition. The main symptom of sin is our rebellion against God. Our sinful actions toward God are evidence that we have a greater issue. In the beginning we see Adam cursed because he wilfully disobeyed God’s commandment. Adam was clearly warned that he would die if he disobeyed God. Yet, Adam did disobey God. Rebellion against God not only reveals a heart issue, but it sadly also means that we miss out on God’s great blessings. 

Genesis 2:16-17 “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Secondly, the SPREAD of SIN. The sin of rebellion is the disease that cursed the whole human race. Everyone born into the world has the disease of sin; we have inherited the sinful nature of Adam, so therefore, we are all born rebels against God, and have a seriously sinful heart problem. 

Romans 5:19 “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners...” 

Thirdly, the SERIOUSNESS of SIN. Sin has an even deeper root problem, that not only affects our physical bodies, but actually destroys our spiritual souls. Sin not only brings forth physical death, but also spiritual death. The Bible states, “For the wages of sin is death...” Romans 6:23 

God Almighty is righteous and hates sin, so therefore, God has declared that the judgment and punishment for sin is death. This death is not just physical, but it is eternal.

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
