Stay close to God - PART 1

James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”

How can a Christian continue to stay close to God?

1. Cleanse your hands

Cleanse means “to make clean or purge”; Christians must continue to be sensitive to the stains of sin that leave long lasting marks in a person’s life. Sin not only damages, but also severs relationships, especially our relationship with God!

Note: Unconfessed sin will keep you far from God and hinder your relationship with Him.

2. Purify your heart

Purify means “to make pure”; to have a close walk with God, Christians are to have a pure heart toward the things of God, and not to be in two minds. Either you stand with God or you stand against God.

James 4:4 “...whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

How is a person to cleanse their hands and purify their hearts?

We need to come before the Lord and confess our sins to Him with a pure heart. Do not treat sin lightly. James 4:9 “Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep...”

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Jesus Christ Precious Gospel

Keep shining the light of the Gospel despite the reaction of men!!!

Acts 17:30 “...but now commandeth all men every where to repent:”

In this passage Paul has just finished preaching the importance of believing on the Lord Jesus Christ and His resurrection; and the command for all men to repent and turn to Christ - who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Notice the three different responses to the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ:

Acts 17:32-34 “And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked...”

1.    Some will mock the message - Psalm 1:1

...and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.”

2.    Others will consider the message again.

Vs 33 “So Paul departed from among them. vs 34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed...”

3.    Certain men will believe the Message.

Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth...”

Do not be ashamed by the only message that can make a true difference is somebody life. Do not let others intimidated you from sharing the good news with those that would believe!

Jesus Christ Precious Blood

1 Peter 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; vs 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

God paid the ultimate price to buy back all of humanity, not with things that are corruptible, but rather with the Precious Blood of Christ. Not only was it a precious gift, but also an expensive one.

1 Peter 2:7 “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious...”

Those who see this by faith to be a precious sacrifice made on their behalf (Jesus paid the price for their sins) and have trusted Him to be their Saviour, realize that Jesus Christ is so precious to them, and therefore have a desire to live for Him and to be different from the world.

1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
