Psalm 138:1-2 "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."
Magnify = to make large, to honour, to lift up, to extol, exalt… Question: Why does God Magnify His Word above His name? 1. God’s Faithfulness to His Word reflects on His Name. Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.’ 2. God’s integrity is based on God keeping His promises. God keeps His promises. God is a God of His Word! Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Here are a few ways we can Magnify the Word of God in our lives. Meditate on the word of God Psalm 119:11 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Appreciate the Word of God Psalm 115:1 “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.” Grow by the Word of God 1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” Navigate from the Word of God Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Invite the Word of God Psalm 119:133 “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Faithful to be under the Word of God Proverbs 27:8 “As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.” Yield to the Word of God James 1:22-25 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Vs 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: vs 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. Vs 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” Delight in the Word of God “For Your Law is my delight. God will not let a man die who delights in His Law! You are the sort of man who shall live. If you love the Law of God, the Word of God, the will of God, the way of God, He will not let you die! There are none too many of your sort in the world, so the Lord will keep you alive so long as you can serve Him here.”— CH SPURGEON |
