1 Corinthians 10:31“...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Ephesians 5:20 “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” One way in which a Christian can bring glory to God is to give thanks for ALL THINGS! 1. True Love Thank God for true love; we would never know what true love is if God didn’t give us His love as the ultimate example. God’s unconditional love! “Charity never faileth” 1 Corinthians 13:8 2. The Gospel Thank God for the good news - the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; without the gospel we would have no hope for eternity. Romans 1:16 3. Trials Thank God for trials that God allows in our lives. This is certainly a tough time to give thanks, but when we understand why God allows trials in our lives, we are able to give thanks. God uses trials to help our faith, to bring us back to the fold, and to mold us into the image of Jesus Christ. God makes no mistakes. God knows best. James 1:2 4. Faithfulness Thank God for His faithfulness. When we fail, He still remains faithful. It is His faithful hand that works in our lives to enable us to be faithful to Him, to our calling, and to the end. Every Christian should desire to hear those words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” For His glory alone! Matthew 25:21 5. Prayer Thank God for prayer. Prayer is to talk with God. God is too good to us in allowing us to approach Him with confidence at any time and any place. An opportunity to pray on behalf of others, to pray for direction, wisdom, daily needs, and to cast all our cares upon Him. Colossians 4:2 6. The Great Commission Thank God for the great commission. It is a great privilege that God has chosen His church to work together with Him to reach a dying world with the precious and blessed gospel. There is no greater calling than to be part of God’s amazing plan. ~ Mark 15:16 Next week we will look at five other things to give thanks for. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Those who only praise God because he does them good should rise to a higher note and give thanks to him because he is good. ~ CH Spurgeon In Christ Alone, C Haddad - Galatians 2:20 "...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31 W: www.gbbc.org.au I E: [email protected] I W: www.eternal.org.au M: Po Box 318 Kotara, NSW, 2289 I P: 0401 955 955 I P: (02) 4023 4889 Meeting: 207 Maryland Dr, Maryland I 10:30am & 5:30pm Sunday services 1 Corinthians 10:31“...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Ephesians 5:20 “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” A person certainly has many things to thank God for; if we were to write a specific list, it would take us a while. However, many live their lives without considering the one that gave them life, let alone desiring to thank Him. They are too busy living life to the max; too busy planning their lifestyle without God in it. This is sad; but what really grieves God’s heart is when His own people are not appreciative of Him. They are always complaining, murmuring for more, never happy. It can be something as simple as the weather. In Ephesians 3:20, God gives some commands. Firstly, to give thanks; secondly, always; thirdly for all things; fourthly unto God and the Father, and lastly, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1. Giving thanks To live all to the glory of God is to give Him thanks. Giving thanks to God is to appreciate Him; to be grateful for all that has done. The opposite is also true; if you do not make it a habit to thank God then you may well be an unthankful person that seeks self- glorification. 2. Always Giving thanks to God is not based on how we feel or how well things are going. Christians are to give thanks in the good times as well as the hard times. True peace is found when you make time to give thanks to God even in the tough times. To live all to the glory of God is to give Him thanks at all times. 3. For all things All things include the things that perhaps go wrong, or do not go the way we would desire them to. Joseph said these words, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” ~ Genesis 50:20. To live all to the glory of God is to give Him thanks for all things. 4. Unto God and the Father A Christian is to give thanks to God the Father. All things are given by Him. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” 5. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ The Lord Jesus Christ has been given a name that is above every name, and it is in His name in which a Christian is to give thanks. Colossians 1:17-18 “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” vs.18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” 1 Corinthians 10:31“...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Note: In chapter 9 Paul was encouraging the Corinthians regarding his calling, his purpose, and his lifestyle. He mentions that the motivation for all that he did in his ministry, his work, and his relationship with others was all for the Gospel’s sake. (We can say, “All for the glory of God”) 1 Corinthians 9:23 “And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.” Towards the end of chapter 9, he mentions that he must be disciplined to maintain this kind of living - living for the glory of God and the sake of the Gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” If a Christian cannot live their life to the glory of God then life is not worth living. In Chapter 10:1 Paul then say “Moreover, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;” To be ignorant is “not to know.” In other words, Paul needed Christians to know some things…he needed to make them aware of some important things. Many times when people do things that are wrong it may be that they aren’t aware that it is wrong. But when it is brought to light and a person receives some instruction, wisdom or understanding, they are then accountable to repent, to change, and to do. James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” As Paul shares a few imperative things (We will see in the next few weeks) with the Church of Corinth, he concludes with 1 Corinthians 10:31“...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” When you live your life to give God the Glory; · Your Decision-making changes - Your agenda changes - Your attitude changes - Your desires change - Your affection changes · Your Passions change - Your passion for the Church of God changes - Your commitment to the Lord changes - Your giving to the Lord changes - Your ministry toward the Lord changes · The Way you do things changes - The way you work changes - The way you study changes - The way you submit to your husband changes - The way you love your wife changes - The way you treat people changes · The Way you live changes - What you watch changes - What you listen to changes - What you speak about changes - What you wear changes - What you think about changes - Where you go changes In Christ Alone, C Haddad - Galatians 2:20 "...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31 W: www.gbbc.org.au I E: [email protected] I W: www.eternal.org.au M: Po Box 318 Kotara, NSW, 2289 I P: 0401 955 955 I P: (02) 4023 4889 Meeting: 207 Maryland Dr, Maryland I 10:30am & 5:30pm Sunday services |
